A Poem for Margo’s Mate

The Downside of Partnering Up with Someone with a Host of Quite-Voluble Friends who Feel They are Owed a Portion of Mourning:

We know of her exes,
And what she looked like in her twenties.
Her intense sorrows,
Her ready smile,
We knew her art,
Her humor.
And that she could rock a pair of pedal pushers…
We know none of
The day-to-day grief,
Expectations unfilled,
Dread of those times of day,
Unable-to-be-shared moments,
That life will never be the same,
End-chores,
Reduced capacity,
And accumulated annoyances and obligations,
Expressed and un-
We pretend to comprehend
We don’t begin to comprehend.
We care.
